The Newtown Centre of Classical Ballet was founded in 2001 by Jennifer Johnston, carrying on the heritage of her mentor, Marsha Ismailoff Mark who taught classical ballet in Newtown, Connecticut for over 30 years. Now in its third generation, and partnered with its newly expanded music division, the tradition of the school continues with Artistic Director Tory Gozzi, Ms. Johnston’s protégé. The school’s aim is to continue to offer the community a positive, artistic environment in which young people can expand their creative abilities while building their self-esteem and talent through high-level classical instruction. Students at Newtown Centre of Classical Ballet & Voice acquire strength, precision, lyricism, and musicianship as well as poise, posture, expression, and discipline that carry over into other aspects of their lives, including educational and professional careers. It is the studio’s goal to equip its young people with not only heightened personal motivation and love of excellence but also the distinct desire to bring enrichment and beauty back to their community through the values learned in the studio with their peers.

“Our daughter has been working on voice with Tory these past, two years. Ms. Gozzi’s expertise, positive encouragement and tremendous vocal skill have been a true blessing to our family; we couldn’t be happier with her weekly voice lessons. We have seen our daughter’s confidence, love for singing and skill set continue to blossom under Tory’s guidance, and she’s now hoping to audition for her first high school play this upcoming school year!” — Sara C.

“NCCB is a warm and welcoming studio.  Artistic director Victoria Gozzi radiates a love of dance which is observed in all of her students.  Dancers receive excellent instruction as well as multiple performance opportunities. My daughter’s confidence, skill, and joy of dancing grew exponentially during her classes, and time on stage.   We only wish we had found this studio sooner as it provides a supportive, fun, and close knit environment.  Having experienced other dance schools in the area, NCCB is absolutely the best.”  – Angela F.

“Tory Gozzi has provided my children with first-class ballet dance training and invaluable opportunities for artistic and personal growth. Tory is an outstanding ballet teacher, giving personal attention to all students and making extremely effective use of class time to teach solid Vaganova ballet technique, which some students have used as a basis for their professional careers. Students have meaningful performance opportunities in both Nutcracker and the spring show; once students advance to the Malenkee Ballet Repertoire Company, they choreograph their own showcase dances as well. Another important consideration for us is that Tory is very knowledgeable about injury prevention and building good habits. She is particularly helpful in the fast growth phase that teens go through when they are more injury prone. As one of my daughters has said ‘Tory loves her students so much and you can tell’. It is really the best in terms of dance training, artistic development and personal growth. We are so grateful to have been a part of this studio.” – Jen
